Summary of Disaster:

 

“It was one of     the worst disaster to hit this area,” notes Charles County emergency manager. “The tornado was down for 26 miles in Charles County before moving on to several other counties. The widest part of the tornado was a mile wide. The estimated cost of property damage was $5.8 million. There were 93 businesses that suffered major damage, 87 homes were destroyed, 167 homes had major damage, and 366 homes suffered minor damage.”

 

Reported Injuries, Deaths, and Rescue at the Site:

 

According to the emergency manager, “Three hundred people were injured during the disaster and three were killed in Charles County and an additional two people were killed in another county. There were no reports of people with mobility limitations being killed or injured.”
