Summary of Disaster:

 

This was the summer that fires raged throughout the whole state of Montana. According to the fire warden, “ Approximately 100,000 acres burned, 88,000 of it was in the national forest areas.” Some of the fires were handled by a couple firefighters, while others needed several fire departments. According to the Ravilli Republic, “One fire complex had nearly 738 personnel, including 50 engine, 8 dozers, 20 water tenders, and 3 helicopters assigned to a fire.”  According to the county emergency manager, the damage figured for Rosebud County was $250,000. Most of the damage was due to the aftermath erosion caused by debris flows.  A value to timber and grass is not included in the damage estimates.

The emergency manager was not aware of any injuries, deaths, or rescues as a result of the disaster in Rosebud County.
