Summary of Disaster:

 

According to USA Today, “A tornado packing winds up to 120 mph and damaged an assisted living center, a nursing home, and five apartment complexes.” The emergency manager of the city noted in the research interview that the tornado caused $7,715,260 in property damage. He stated, that as a result of the tornado many people with special needs were displaced, and the city later identified the issue of follow-up tracking of persons with special needs as an area of improvement needed.

 

Reported Injuries, Deaths, and Rescue at the Site:

 

According to the emergency manager, there were no reported injuries or deaths in the city of Hampton due to the disaster. However, approximately 1,000 people were rescued, including an estimated 155 from the local assisted living facility.
